fire in the tummy ..
Posted by: | Comments… and it always heats up when I’m getting ready to go back to NY. It’s that feeling of (GREAT) anticipation.
I’m really looking forward to this particular trip. I have my very first *networking* meeting in the city tomorrow evening! I’m meeting up with the PR/marketing team at The GEM Hotel to discuss their new marketing campaign. I love Twitter, it’s where I made the connection with The GEM. Well, a coworker recommended the place, but our relationship has developed via Twitter. I’ve stayed at The GEM (in Chelsea) 5 out of the 6 times I’ve been to NY. It’s become my home away from home. They make me feel so comfortable there, how could I not fall in love with NY again? And besides, I’ve always had a thing for Chelsea.
The new campaign is brilliant – it will feature a person that is planning a move to NY, and their hotel(s) will serve as the “test run.” They will stay at each of their hotels in Chelsea, Midtown West and SOHO. The place to crash after exploring your MANY options in the city. The campaign will chronicle the persons’ journey and their experience at The GEM. Now that’s what I call grass roots marketing! They really are on top of their game. They’ve got Twitter down to a science – I tweet ‘em when I’m planning my next trip, and they book the room. Sold!
Oh, one last little mention of The GEM’s marketing campaign .. I may be the person included in the campaign! Fun, huh?! The rest of my agenda for the trip: agency meetings for work, apartment hunting on Saturday and celebrate my friend’s (DanNYC) birthday!
PSSSSSS: let’s cross our fingers that I find an apartment on Saturday … it’s time to finalize this move.
More updates to follow …
my box is broke …
Posted by: | Commentsnot THAT box … Xianbox! Actually, my entire site is getting an upgrade – outdated software. I hate when that happens. It couldn’t come at a better time— I’m also in the middle of a life upgrade. Big changes ahead! I’ll make the *life upgrade* announcement when we relaunch. Hold on to your seats, kids! The only downside to the (site) upgrade: incYourself.net will be down for at least a week. No worries though, you’ll be pleasantly surprised when we’re back up again – a brand new look. Gotta keep it fresh! If you’d like to keep tabs on me during the construction, you can find me on Twitterz or Facebook.
I also wanted to share an Alanis song with you via Xianbox, but since it’s broke you’re getting the Youtube version. I like to think of this song as my wish list for life. It’s the lyrics.. listen…
know your worth.
Posted by: | CommentsHappy effin Friday! And I’m even more delighted for this particular Friday because I’m taking a break and not returning to the office until next Wednesday.
It’s been quite a challenging week. I returned home from NY on Monday and decided to have a *big* conversation with my boss. I’m planning a big move and I need their support. I’m making this move on my own, but I’m doing it primarily for the job – to expand our client base. I’ve been to NY 5 times now, and each time I visit a new agency. These meetings have resulted in four requests for proposals (all new business.) I’m building relationships. That’s what it’s about, especially when it comes to advertising. I felt confident going into the meeting with my boss – especially when I was told that I doubled the former VP’s sales compared to this time last year. Numbers speak volumes.
There’s one thing I’ve learned over the past 18 years when it comes to careers: we must know our worth. It’s one thing to recognize our worth, but it’s an entirely different story when it comes to presenting it to the boss. The conversation started well, but then it took a turn for the worst. I detest confrontation. I grew up with the constant bickering. The back and forth. Conversations that go nowhere. My guard goes up. But not this time, I knew it was time to stand my ground and not back down. I get extremely sensitive when it comes to my career. I’ve spent the last 18 years building my brand and I won’t let anyone take that away from me. Yes, the economy is by no means healed, but we always have a choice. So, I gave them an option and should know their answer in a week. I am ready …. for whatever the future holds for me. I can’t let fear stop me from thriving in life.
So take these three words with you each time you walk through the office door: KNOW. YOUR. WORTH.
