Good Intentions

Posted by: xian | Comments (4)

I heard some news yesterday that made me think of our intentions. I was hurt a little when I first heard it, but I stopped myself and thought; you know, I did the best I could. I gave it 110%.

How often do you find yourself in these moments; where you honestly thought you approached a situation with the best of intentions, but it totally backfires and you’re left scratching your head. It is so difficult to not let our first reaction take over: Anger.  I used to be so quick with my reactions – the old Christian would have fired off an email in seconds. But I felt something new after feeling the initial hurt. It’s fine. I am really happy with life right now and I choose whom or what I give my energy to.  I’ve lost some friends over the past two years that were so special to me – influences. But I realize they are still special and aren’t always meant to stay an influence in our lives.  If we can say we truly approach life with good intentions (not our definition of good… but pure) I think we’re doing pretty damn good.

The Process

Posted by: xian | Comments (1)

I spent a lot of time working on my book (Letters from David) last week; the chapters are laid out and I’m working on a summary for each. It’s been quite cathartic. I re-visited the manuscript of  the book I started a few years ago – to use as a reference for the new focus, and my how things have changed; primarily my Voice. There was a lot of anger behind the story back then. Christian grows up  – -  and the crowd says.. Awwwwww… :-)

It’s such an amazing feeling to write your way through pain and discovery. I also discovered how far I’ve come with it all;  looking at David’s life from a new perspective – a peaceful one. I am passionate about telling his story. I believe with all my heart that his story can make a difference. Case in point… I was doing research on where religion fits with homosexuality, and decided to Google my title for Chapter 7 (All Gay Boys Go to Hell.) We’ve got ourselves some concerned souls out there;  pages and pages on 3 major search engines.

Everything about this book feels right. I sit down to write and the next thing I know 2 or 3 hours have passed. And my house; another reason why it’s my fortress. It’s so quiet, and I can really take the time to focus without too many distractions. Poor Isaak – but he will tell me when it’s time to quit for the day; he’ll bring me his little ball for some play time. Dogs are great that way – they serve as little reminders.

I plan on highlighting some of the book on incYourself as I work my way through it. Part of finding “the deal”  is starting the marketing early – and we know how I love to market! ;-) Any feedback or thoughts on the subject is always appreciated.

Stay tuned….

Colleen’s Sweet Collections

Posted by: xian | Comments (2)

My very good friend, K.E.Y/Colleen, was yet another victim of the economy/panic – she was another coworker laid off last month. She is so talented, and I wanted to show her some love on The Hub. And damn, she can hook it up with the sweets! If you want to know the way to my heart, send me some chocolates. I’m going to order some of the cups of joy! And I’m also happy to report she’s been keeping herself busy with her collections – how many pounds have you sold now, K.E.Y?

Take a look and show some love. They’re perfect gifts for Easter. You can email either of us with your order; she’ll ship them to you (shipping calculated at order) or she’ll personally deliver the goods if you’re on the West side of Cleveland. Delivery (shipped or personally delivered)  is 3 – 5 days. How sweet is that??

Move over pop tarts!

Posted by: xian | Comments (0)

And this one actually has substantial talent. I purposely avoided Lady Gaga/Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – you see why she gave herself a stage name. I just thought she was another manufactured pop star. But I saw her video for Poker Face on VH1 the other morning (I’ve bought more singles on iTunes thanks to them – I’m a marketing persons dream) and I was impressed. There was something different with this one – - you still have that digitalized sound you hear on any other pop album, but she takes it to another level with the synth’s. The lyrics can get pretty trashy – I like it. She was nominated for a Grammy for her first hit – Just Dance (from her CD, The Fame – Times Online described the album as “a fantastic mix of Bowie-esque ballads, dramatic, Queen-inspired mid-tempo numbers and synth-based dance tracks that poke fun at celebrity-chasing rich kids..” Sweet. She also reminds me of Peaches (not that raunchy though) Love me some Peaches too. :-)

I wanted to read more on Gaga, so I Wikipedia’d her ass. Here’s some history…and she has brains – double wow!

Gaga was born in Yonkers, New York to an internet entrepreneur father and a business partner; both are Italian. As a child, she attended the private Catholic school Convent of the Sacred Heart. Having learned piano by ear at the age of four, Gaga went on to write her first piano ballad at 13 and began performing at open mic nights by the age of 14. At the age of seventeen, Gaga was one of twenty people in the world to have gained early admission to the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied music. She honed her writing skills by composing essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion and socio-policital order. However she withdrew from the New York University. Her entrepreneur father was shocked when she ran off to the Lower East Side to dabble in drugs and appear in burlesque shows at dive bars with drag queens and go-go dancers. “He couldn’t look at me for a few months,” she admits of her early experimentation. “I was in leather thongs, so it was hard for him — he just didn’t understand.”

Now there’s a solid beginning to fame a.k.a natural born talent. And I like that she ran away to the lower east side – why not? We all had our rebellious period, no?  So hit play on Xianbox and  take a listen to Poker Face…. is it hookin’ ya??

And Lady Gaga is starting the Quote of the Week Nominations:
A little gamblin’ is fun when you’re with me. I love it. Russian Roulette is not the same without a gun. And baby when it’s love if it’s not rough it isn’t fun..!
